Tahini is the secret ingredient in our rainbow of smoothie recipes that are equal parts healthy, rich and nutty.

People by now are starting to cotton on to tahini – the amazing paste of crushed sesame seeds that is one of the essential components of hummus. You may have gotten adventurous and tried it with a salad dressing, and we have to admit our absolute favourite tahini recipe is part of a crunchy top for a Moroccan Spiced Lamb & Tahini Yoghurt Pie.

So far, so delicious. But what about the sweeter side of things?  There’s no reason this nutrient dense spread can’t lend its magical nuttiness to a sweet treat or two, and today we’re giving you four! These tasty smoothies are packed with fruit and veg, and we think you’ll agree our secret ingredient is a very welcome addition to these filling drinks.

1. Pink Tahini Smoothie

Banana and tahini work double duty to make this pretty-in-pink smoothie extra creamy.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1/2 Cup Raspberries
  • 1/4 Cup Tahini
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend, blend blend! Add more almond milk if too thick.

2. Yellow Tahini Smoothie

The perfect sunny pick me up for a cold winter’s morning, this bright mango and pineapple smoothie is just about as good as a holiday.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Fresh or Frozen Mango
  • 1/2 Cup Pineapple
  • 1/4 Cup Tahini
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend, blend blend! Add more almond milk if too thick.

3. Green Tahini Smoothie

Speaking of savoury ingredient favourites we need to use in sweet things more often, here’s an avo and spinach number to keep you feeling green!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup Spinach
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1/4 Cup Tahini
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend, blend blend! Add more almond milk if too thick.

4. White Tahini Smoothie

Peanut butter and banana really is a match made in heaven, simple as that.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana
  • 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Tahini
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend, blend blend! Add more almond milk if too thick.
