by HelloFresh Get To Know Us

Yeah, it’s a big call. So what? We’ve had 3 double macchiatos are we’re ready to defend our choices to the last breath.

We love coffee, and it’s fair to say that without it, not much would get done here at HelloFresh HQ.  So without further ado, here’s our definitive list of the best coffee in Sydney (although we’re happy to concede there are other contenders).

Bloodhound Espresso

Shop 1 / 230 Palmer Street, Darlinghurst

We love it because they’re proudly single origin, and do great food to boot.

Our endorsement “Bloodhound Espresso in Darlinghurst, great coffee and food (amazing Bloody Mary burger), I get a caramel latte :)” – Marine, Partnerships Princess

Fleetwood Macchiato

We love it because puns aside, these laid back dudes share their Mixcloud playlist so you can keep up to date with the latest jams. Thanks for letting us into the cool kids club guys!

Our endorsement “Amazing coffee, great lovely Melbourne looking staff (some would say hipster – think large pants and short fringes) and a beef brisket sandwich to fall in love with <3. I get a regular yummy flat white.” – Larah, Recipe and Product Tastemaker

Bondi Massive

2/8 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach

best coffee in sydney

We love it because a lot of us are Bondi babes at heart…

Our endorsement “Yes, I admit it’s in Bondi, but it’s also just great coffee. I get a double espresso.” – Dominik, Logistics and Production genius

We love it because it’s spacious, unpretentious, and all about the bean (they even offer coffee education).

Our endorsement “Awesome location. Very minimalist. And I always get a double espresso.” – Dominik, the man who needs two favourite coffee shops.

The Nine

We love it because it’s Mediterranean inspired and dedicated to local, seasonal, sustainable produce. What’s not to love!

Our endorsement “It’s a few doors down from my house and they don’t have that huge Bondi coffee line. I don’t line up for coffee because I’m not a person that has nothing better to do on a weekend morning in their active wear and designer baby prams. I get a full fat milk cap!” – Erin, busy business lady and Recipe Wrangler

Why we love it
” Three Reasons:

  • They use their own almond/macadamia milk which is made fresh by hand
  • Roast their own coffee there
  • Cool people own it” – Tor, Brilliant Brand Boss

Le Monde Cafe

83 Foveaux St, Surry Hills

We love it because the judges and the locals agree this is a great cup of joe.
Our endorsement “It has very fancy orange take away cups & has a nice stand of junk newspapers to read from (how else could you hear about Brandgelina break up on time?). Oh yes and the coffee is the best. My coffee order is a Large Strong Skim Flat White (triple shot)” – Manutea, Procurement Wizard and potentially over caffeinated…

Cafe Nookie

268B Cleveland St, Surry Hills

best coffee in sydney

We love it because they’re political blackboard wittiness is nearly as good as their coffee.
Our endorsement “A one woman operation – who still manages to remember my (albeit not complex order) of a Long Black” – Robert, All-Around Fixer, Project Manager and honorary American

Dachshund Coffee

We love it because suburban coffee shops should never be forgotten. They do a great cold drip in the summer – we’re not the only ones who think so.
Our endorsement “They do an absolutely mean double flatty” – Steph, Recipe Writer Extraordinaire

We love it because it’s ever so slightly hidden in the backstreets of Saint Peters. Dogs are welcome, and the staff are as divine as the food.
Our endorsement “There’s no better way to spend a Sunday morning  nursing a hangover than in here with a crossword and a bottomless cappuccino. Bonus points for all of their cool dogs” – Greer, hopeless coffee addict

It’s unfortunate that your reviewer didn’t manage to get south of St Peters or west of Hunters Hill. There are extraordinary coffee houses all over Sydney however your reviewer like most reviewers seem to manage to stay close only to their inner Sydney addresses or places of work.
Maybe you should throw it open to your subscribers who would give a more broad demographic to this survey. I doubt if the rest of us are drinking “ordinary” coffee.
Just a thought.

Karen and Jane,

We couldn’t agree more! Our claim of ‘definitive’ is a bit cheeky here, Western Sydney in particular deserves a whole list of its own – there are so many great places to eat and drink. Watch this space for more reviews coming soon!

Jane Cunliffe-Jones says:

The coffee out west is even better. Black Drum Roasters at Blacktown roast great coffee. I don’t believe that your list is definitive.
