5 Foods that are good for your teeth
November 14, 2016Keep your pearly whites looking right with these 5 foods that are good for your teeth.
My mum used to say to me “Look after your teeth, they’re the only pair you’ve got!”, which, at the age of 9, wasn’t strictly true. Nevertheless, I’m now onto my last set, and thought it would remiss of me not to share with your these foods that will keep the dentist away.
1. Dairy, dairy, and more dairy
Perhaps not the most obtuse choice for this list – but it is always good to remind yourself of the importance of calcium rich foods like dairy for a beautiful smile.
Try: Spiced Chicken with Tahini Yoghurt
2. Apples
Biting into a crisp apple facilitates the production of saliva to rinse away nasty bacteria. And thanks to their high water content and concentration of Vitamin C, apples also kill the bacteria causing bad breath while supporting the immune system.
Plus, there’s an apple for just about every occasion.
Try: Pork and Apple Burgers with Sweet Potato Wedges
3. Leafy Greens
When it comes kale, spinach and salad greens, you’re well looked after. These veggies require lots and lots of chewing, but they essentially scrub your teeth as they’re mashed. And that means your powerful gnashers are being kept in check!
Try: Pumpkin, Kale and Cannellini Bean Salad
4. Nuts
The vitamins and minerals in protein-packed almonds, cashews, peanuts, and walnuts help strengthen your teeth. Calcium, vitamin D, folic acid, iron, zinc, magnesium, niacin… the list goes on.
You have our permission to go nuts!
Try: Chicken & Cashew Noodle Stir Fry with Coriander
5. Strawberries
Pearly whites get even whiter when exposed to malic acid, a powerful enzyme in these juicy gems.
