Why Staying In Is The New Going Out April 30, 2018

by Greer Eat

Go out and enjoy a special dinner? Or stay at home and save your precious pennies? Fortunately, you don’t have to choose. Here’s why staying in can be just as nice as a date night on the town.

why staying in is the new going out

Why wring hands over the price of avocado toast and trying to enter the property market when you can enjoy a date night in at home? There are plenty of reasons to eschew restaurants for home comforts.

1. You’ll Save Money

An obvious point but an important one to make. Even if you head out and buy whole host of expensive, exotic ingredients, chances are the bill will be under what you’d rack up at a restaurant. Never mind the taxi fares, the drinks waiting at the bar before, the tips and the over expensive bottles of wine. It all starts to add up. Plus, in the comfort of your own home, there’s no need to splurge on a new tie or fancy shoes. At this point, you’re making money!

2. You’ll Learn Something

Not only is whipping up a meal at home cheaper, but it’s actually more valuable to you! Why, I hear you ask? Because, my sweet summer child, by booking your own meal you will learn to master an impressive new dish! Once you’ve got even a simple recipe under your belt, you can experiment with flavour combinations and in season produce to create loads of new dishes. Why not think, then, of cooking a meal at home as money saving activity and in investment in yourself? It’s hard to argue against staying in when you put it like that.

3. It Shows People You Care

The old adage about the way to the heart being through the stomach gets repeated for a reason. While there are lots of nice gifts and gestures you can offer those you love, the fact remains that we all need to eat nutritious food everyday. Taking time out of your day to nourish someone else is just about one of the nicest things you can do, and we think it beats a reservation at a fancy elite restaurant any day of the week.

4. You Can Get Real Weird With It

By far the best reason to stay in is the absolute freedom it affords you. No need for any table manners (well, maybe some), no worrying about what you’re wearing, no need to keep your voice down while you tell your killer hilarious anecdote. Staying in the comfort of your own home spells comfy trackies, good company and unrestrained enjoyment. And if that isn’t what a good meal is about, we don’t know what is.
