Spring clean your dinnertime routine!

As we say hello to Spring and goodbye to chilly Winter nights, there’s no better time to shake up stale dinnertime routines!

Accredited Dietitian and HelloFresh Head of Culinary, Hannah Gilbert has put together her top tips for spring cleaning dinnertime.

Out with the old, in with the new

The first step of any good spring clean is to declutter! You swap out heavy clothes from your wardrobe, so why not swap heavy foods from your diet for fresher, lighter ones?

With so much fresh Spring produce at our fingertips here in Australia, it’s the perfect opportunity to put delicious veggies like asparagus, beetroot, spinach, mushrooms and avocado back on the menu.

As well as the nutritional kick these seasonal veggies add to a dish, they also bring such unique flavours – just like in our Dukkah Roasted Sweet Potato & Beetroot Salad with Feta

    Perfect portions

Sometimes it’s not what you eat, but how much.

Ever heard of the term ‘portion distortion’? It refers to the growing portion sizes that people consider ‘normal’. If you’re looking to keep portion sizes in check and balance your meals, these golden rules are good to follow.

    1. Imagine your plate divided into quarters when serving up. One quarter of your plate should be your protein, one quarter your whole grain carbs, and the remaining half your veggies and salad – just like in our Leek and Feta Chicken with Roasted Sweet Potato and Green Beans!
    2. Use a smaller dinner plate! Though the portion size will be slightly smaller, you’re likely to feel just as satisfied, without feeling stuffed!

    Discover something new!

Short on time and finding yourself turning to takeaway for a quick fix? While fast food might be convenient, it can often lack nutritional value.

At HelloFresh, we think there’s nothing better than home-cooking, simplified. Whether you’re a brilliant cook or someone that’s still learning, cooking for yourself with fresh, wholesome ingredients means you take control of what you put in your body, while broadening your cooking repertoire and introducing new flavours and cuisines into your routine.
