Waste Not Want Not: DIY puppet theatre!September 10, 2015
At HelloFresh, we hate waste. It’s the worst. We try to make the most of everything we have – and that even includes the box our deliveries arrive in!
In our Waste Not, Want Not series, we show you some handy tips for turning your cardboard box into all manner of useful or just plain cute objects. This week, a beautiful diarama or puppet theatre to act out your greatest adventures.
This project is so super easy, and you can make it as simple or as elaborate as you like. We started off with a trusty HelloFresh box, and cut out one whole side, leaving a border around the edge around 1 1/2 inches wide.
Then, you’ll need a background the size of an A3 piece of paper. You can use an image you love, paint or draw your own, or even just start sticking stuff onto the back wall of the box! We’ve gone for a meadow scene in our puppet theatre, but you are really only limited by your own imagination.
For the closer foreground layers of our theatre, we cut out some foliage and trees, leaving a small tab down the length of each piece on the side. Fold this tab back, so it is at a 90 degree angle to your picture. Then, just stick with glue or tape to the sides of the box, at varying points on either side. The more layers you add, the more complex and engrossing the world you’ve created will become!
We also added some lower bushed to the very front edge of our theatre, because we are artistic like that.
The rest is up to you! We’ve left the top of our theatre open, perfect for dropping in a puppet character or two. You could even add small cutouts of the sides of the theatre to bring features in and out.
We would love to see what our creative masterchefs come up with for this one – so why not give your own beautiful diarama a try?
Last week we were blown away with one HelloFresher’s take on the DIY cat house. What an amazing finished product! That cat is not moving for love or money…
You can post the finished product to our Facebook page, Instagram or Tweet us. We know there are going to be some amazing worlds springing up in cardboard boxes all over the country!
